A Phlebotomist is a person who drawls blood for a
career.

Work Environment

Hospitals, commercial laboratories, physician's offices, blood banks, home health agencies, research institutions, hospices, public health clinics, and prisons.


Job responsibilities

Obtain blood and other specimens, light Clerical duties, specimen processing, daily communication and interacting with patients of all ages

Sample of Course

Basic Human anatomy, communication, Medical terminology, OSHA rules& regulations, collection and storage of blood and components, donor processing and immune mechanisms.

Length of the program

Training to become a Phlebotomist can take anywhere from 9-24 months. This includes formal theoretical training and supervised practice.

Things to consider

-Phlebotomists usually work regular office hours, but they may be required to work on weekends as well

-The hourly pay is about $9.85 - $12.25 per hour
